Getting a "can't verify the developer" warning?

If you see a warning on first launch, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway". Open source software usually isn't signed with an Apple developer certificate, which is normal.

Clicking "Download" takes you to a source confirmation page first; the download starts after confirmation.

PPSSPP Installation Guide

Windows

x64 systems: Download PPSSPP-v1.20.4-Windows-x64.zip (recommended here), extract it, and run PPSSPP.exe.
ARM64 systems: Download PPSSPP-v1.20.4-Windows-ARM64.zip, extract it, and run PPSSPP.exe.

macOS

Download PPSSPPSDL-macOS-v1.20.4.zip (recommended here), extract it, and drag PPSSPP.app into the "Applications" folder, or double-click to run directly.
If you see a warning that it cannot be opened because the developer is unidentified, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, then click "Open Anyway" to allow it.

Linux

Download PPSSPP-v1.20.4-anylinux-x86_64.AppImage (x64) or PPSSPP-v1.20.4-anylinux-aarch64.AppImage (ARM64), make it executable, and run it.

The source code package ppsspp-1.20.4.tar.xz is available for manual compilation.

First-run notes

PPSSPP does not require a BIOS file; you can load PSP ISOs, CSOs, and other disc images directly.
The default settings strike a balance between compatibility and speed, so it's recommended to try the defaults first.

Is PPSSPP free?

Yes. PPSSPP is open-source software licensed under GPL 2.0 and is completely free. You can freely use, share, and even modify its source code.

What systems are supported?

Officially supported platforms include Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. This site currently offers packages for Windows and macOS; you can also get versions for other platforms from the official website.

Do I need a PSP BIOS file?

No. PPSSPP is an HLE emulator; by default, it can run the vast majority of games without a BIOS.

How do I update to a new version?

Download the latest package and install it over the existing version. Be sure to back up your saves and settings, though they are usually kept automatically. You can also get the latest test builds from the development builds page on the official site.

Can I play multiplayer?

PPSSPP supports local ad-hoc multiplayer and network play for some games, but the game itself must support it, and you may need to configure a matching server or use community-provided "revival" servers.
