Getting a "can't verify the developer" warning?

If you see a warning on first launch, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway". Open source software usually isn't signed with an Apple developer certificate, which is normal.

Install guide

Windows

For 64-bit systems, download calibre-64bit-9.12.0.msi, double-click to run, and follow the wizard to complete installation.
For the portable version, download calibre-portable-installer-9.12.0.exe and install it to a USB drive or a custom directory; no system installation is required.

macOS

Download calibre-9.12.0.dmg, open it, and drag the calibre icon into the Applications folder.
If you see a warning that the app cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer, right-click calibre in Applications and choose “Open”, or click “Open Anyway” in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

Linux

Choose the binary package based on your CPU architecture: calibre-9.12.0-arm64.txz (ARM64) or calibre-9.12.0-x86_64.txz (x86_64).
After extracting, enter the directory and run ./calibre.
The source package calibre-9.12.0.tar.xz is available for building from source.

First Run

On first launch, a database directory is created. It is recommended to keep the default; you can change it later.
When you connect an ebook reader, the device is recognized automatically, and you can manage books under the “Device” tab.
