Getting a "can't verify the developer" warning?

If you see a warning on first launch, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway". Open source software usually isn't signed with an Apple developer certificate, which is normal.

Clicking "Download" takes you to a source confirmation page first; the download starts after confirmation.

Risk notice

PureMac requires Full Disk Access and may request administrator privileges when cleaning certain root-owned items. Although deletions are sent to the Trash by default and the app includes symlink protections, you should review scan results carefully before cleaning. The app is signed and notarized by Apple.

PureMac can be installed in several ways.

Download from this site

Recommended: `PureMac-2.9.6.dmg`
Double-click the .dmg to mount it.
Drag PureMac.app into the Applications folder.
The app is signed and notarized, so no Gatekeeper warning is expected. If one does appear, right-click the app and choose Open, or allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
Alternative: PureMac-2.9.6.zip
Double-click to unzip, then drag PureMac.app into Applications.

First run

On first launch, PureMac walks you through granting Full Disk Access. You can also enable it manually in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access. Without this permission, many system cleanup categories and complete app uninstalls will not reach protected locations.

No. PureMac has no telemetry, analytics, or crash reporting, and it never sends data anywhere.

Why does it need Full Disk Access?

macOS hides many protected locations by default, such as Mail downloads, Safari data, and app containers. Full Disk Access lets PureMac scan those areas and fully uninstall apps. Without it, roughly 70% of cleanup categories cannot be covered.

How do I update PureMac?

If installed via Homebrew, run `brew upgrade --cask puremac`. Otherwise, download the latest release from GitHub Releases and replace the app in Applications.
