Getting a "can't verify the developer" warning?

If you see a warning on first launch, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway". Open source software usually isn't signed with an Apple developer certificate, which is normal.

Clicking "Download" takes you to a source confirmation page first; the download starts after confirmation.

Install guide

Visit the download page on this site to get the latest Stats.dmg.
Open Stats.dmg and drag the Stats icon into the Applications folder in the window that appears.
Launch Stats from Applications or Launchpad. Watch for macOS security prompts on first launch.
If you see a message like "cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer", right-click the app icon and choose Open, or go to System Settings → Privacy & Security to confirm whether you want to allow it to run.
Optional: You can also install via Homebrew by running brew install stats in Terminal.

To uninstall, you can run the app's built-in uninstall script (requires administrator privileges): sh /Applications/Stats.app/Contents/Resources/Scripts/uninstall.sh

Is Stats free software?

Yes. Stats is open source under the MIT license and is free to use. The source code is public on GitHub.

Which macOS versions are supported?

Stats requires macOS 12 (Monterey) or later and does not support beta versions of macOS.

How do I update to the latest version?

The app automatically checks for updates. You can also visit GitHub Releases or this site to download the latest `Stats.dmg`. If you installed via Homebrew, run `brew upgrade stats`.

Do installation and uninstallation require administrator privileges?

No special privileges are needed to install. However, when uninstalling, you need to run the uninstall script with administrator privileges to remove the SMC helper tool.

Why doesn't the Stats icon appear in the menu bar?

Make sure at least one module is enabled. macOS 26 adds menu bar privacy controls; go to System Settings → Menu Bar and turn on Stats.
